Profile

Born and educated in Glasgow, Ronald McCaffer studied Civil Engineering at Strathclyde University, graduating in 1965 with a BSc in Civil Engineering.

  • Awarded PhD in 1977 from Loughborough University and DSc in 1998 from University of Strathclyde
  • Elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 1991
  • Elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 2009
  • Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Chartered Institute of Building
  • Industry experience with Babtie, Shaw and Morton; the Nuclear Power Group at Hinkley Point 'B' nuclear power station; and Taylor Woodrow Construction Ltd before taking up an academic career at Loughborough University

 

Teaching

  • Extensive teaching experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in construction subjects
  • External examining experience in the UK and internationally

 

Research

  • Research work funded by EPSRC, Industry, Government departments and the EU in construction management in and the use of ICT in construction
